Beaverdam Creek 319 Watershed Project Phase II

Phase II of the Beaverdam Creek Watershed Project has begun! Located in Watauga County, NC, Beaverdam Creek Watershed is considered a degraded water body and is on the 303(d) list. BFEC is working with the Watauga River Partners, the Blue Ridge Conservancy, and NCDENR (319 program) on this watershed project. After the successes of Phase I, we have started meeting with other interested landowners. As before, the goal of this project is to enhance water quality in the Beaverdam watershed though the installation of agricultural fencing along streambanks, alternative watering sources, planting native buffers, employing nutrient control measures, incorporating stormwater elements, etc.

To date BFEC has worked with numerous landowners on a variety of water quality/quantity related projects. Thus far, just under 5,000 linear feet of stream enhancement been implemented in the watershed.  Multiple landowners have now excluded livestock from entering streams by fencing and offering alternative water sources. We have also coordinated with Bethel Elementary School to install a stormwater rain garden that included an educational event for students.
