Roan Creek Watershed Phase II, TN: Wallace Branch

The Wallace Branch project on Roan Creek has been completed.  This is part of the Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDA) 319 Nonpoint Source Grant Program to establish Best Management Practices (BMPs) for the control of nonpoint source pollution and improvement of water quality.  We completed streambank sloping and planting and installed shoreline protections including j-hooks and boulder toes along approximately 500 linear feet of streambank on the property.  This property is one of many along Roan Creek that BFEC has worked on as part of the 319 Program.  Check out some of the before and after photos below:

Memorial Park Enhancement Project

BFEC was on the design team and responsible for permitting the Memorial Park Enhancement Project in North Wilkesboro, NC is under construction. Approximately 140 linear feet of an unnamed tributary of the Upper Yadkin River is being outfitted with upgraded stormwater management infrastructure in order to mitigate the impacts of urban runoff. Furthermore, approximately 480 linear feet of aquatic enhancement is being implemented by way of stream enhancement and wetland restoration. Stream enhancement techniques include floodplain connectivity, in-stream structures, and wetland restoration. The revival of these natural stream features effectively slow and treat stormwater flows from the developed upstream area allowing for sediment and nutrient export reduction to the Yadkin River at the downstream extent of the project site. This enhancement project is expected to be wrapped up by spring/summer 2016.
